What is a Playing XI?
A Playing XI is the group of eleven players selected to represent a side in a match. Roles vary by team and format: some players focus on batting, some on bowling, and all-rounders contribute in both disciplines. A wicketkeeper is usually identified separately because keeping is a specialist role.
Use roles as a planning guide
Role labels help show broad team composition, but do not guarantee a balanced side. Selection also depends on availability, fitness, pitch conditions, match format, batting depth, bowling variety and competition rules.
